New iPhone to be launched with Mexican theme

Mexico City, Mexico — Is Apple running out of ways to make iPhone exciting?

“¡Hell no!” says Tim Cook.

The newly minted CEO plans to spice things up by giving all future iPhones an international “theme.”

It all starts on September 29th, when Cook goes south of the border to unveil iPhone cinco.

“We really want to honor these countries before we force our culture upon them,” says Cook.

In iPhone cinco, Mexican is more than skin deep. The most obvious change is the new Snooze button that sits alongside iPhone’s traditional Home button. Now you can literally snooze in the middle of any activity: email, browsing, games, music, movies and more. Just click Snooze and iPhone cinco will shut down, ignoring all input for the next two hours. (Snooze period is adjustable in Settings.)

Find My Sombrero is a feature that will delight those of us who frequently misplace our head-wear.

iPhone cinco also breaks new ground by pulling back on key iPhone functions. Safari web pages, for example, now load a full 48% slower.

“We listen to our customers,” says Cook. “They think the world is moving too fast, so we’re just going to slow things down a bit.”

Some Apple critics are already flinging their darts. “What a bunch of hypocrites,” says one analyst, who requested anonymity for this article. “They make an all-Mexican iPhone, but they’re still building it in China. ¿Por qué?”

To be fair, Apple actually did build a factory in Tijuana, but ran into opposition from  Mexico’s government. Too many unemployed Americans were sneaking across the border to take jobs meant for Mexicans.

As a compromise, Apple continues to manufacture iPhones in China, but encourages assembly line workers to dress Mexican-style during work hours.

What country will become the theme for iPhone 6? According to our source, Cook has his heart set on Liechtenstein — but you can never count out Kyrgyzstan.

Before anyone else say something, Im mexican and im not taking this seriously, it’s a joke!

  • Xc

    Fucking cliches

    Fucking cliches

  • Freducken

Thanks for your input. Now be quiet and let a real Mexican speak for everyone else, cause yeah, one person gets to decide what is and is not prejudicial to an entire identity. Dummy…

  • Tu Papirrín Dice

    ¡Culeroooos, culerooooos!

  • Freducken

Hey Scoopertino, where are the porch monkey and cousin on cousin incest metaphors? Are you too good to be an equal opportunity bigot? Excuse me while I go take a snooze… okay, after that nap I still think this falls under the category of muted racism/bigotry veiled as comedy/satire.

  • Guillermo Yaniv Salazar Verbiz

This is really racist, I can believe this blog publish stuff like that.

  • Danielms215

Mexican speaking here, ok so our country is not the best, but all these stereotypes are just lies and i do find this offensive.

For you ignorant americans: We mexicans are not lazy.
No mexican will EVER use a sombrero.
Do you like food? or, you know, anything? Because the poor mexicans that find themselves in the need of crossing the border ilegally do all those jobs that YOU AMERICANS are too LAZY to do, they do it.

So shut up, i am really dissapointes, Scoopertino.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ChrisKillen Chris Killen

it’s not that Americans are too lazy to do it, the illegal immigrants will do it for a lot less money. And they can just survive off of it because they don’t have to pay taxes like my parents that bust their ass everyday.

Actually, they came pretty close to the cousin-on-cousin joke in the Jony Ive article a while back. Damn funny too. White trash humor aside, I remember articles making fun of senior citizens, the Chinese, religion and Libyan revolutionaries. Sounds like equal-opportunity comedy to me. Please don’t lose your edge, Scoopertino.

Do you guys even get the joke? It’s that Apple is so arrogant — and misguided– they think they can honor a culture by playing off of its stereotypes. Get it?

  • MakeItIntheUSA

Unemployed Americans going to Mexico to get jobs… No way the Mexican government would allow that! Sneaking across the border and being able to work is a one way street!  Funny iPhone ad though!

  • http://twitter.com/jaredbelcher Jared Belcher

    Not a fan.

  • Eric

Lighten the fuck up.  People take themselves way too seriously.  The next time I hear a black man or a Latino call a white guy a gringo or a honkey I’m gonna break down and cry.

  • Danielms215

I get that, but thats not my point

  • Neecolas

Hey its funny.  I am a Mexican and I get tired of ANYONE taking them selves too seriously.  Please just enjoy it as a gag.  Its like all american white fat low income people getting mad if someone makes a white trash joke.  the stereotypes are not 100% accurate, but cultural differences are simply not avoidable as something funny.

It’s funny but this could have achieved the same comical effect without the clear racist stereotype stab at Mexicans.

  • Kevin

I love all of this shite. Keep it up.

My Hispanic housekeeper AND my Hispanic gardener BOTH got free prototype iPhone 5′s at the Cava 22 “CRAZY TWOFERRNIGHT”

Could have been done without the racist lazy stereotype. That would have made it a lot more palatable for many people. Loved the unemployed Americans crossing the border joke. Of course WE’RE too lazy to work that hard.

  • Nick

I love jokes but man.. I sorta get sick of racist jokes specially when they just think on mexico as “tacos”,”sobreros”, “siestas” … like WTF -.-

  • Anonymous

Personally, I think the worst kind of comedy is the kind that’s made “more palatable for many people.”

Get it right, people. Scoopertino did not write this. Lucas Meppen-Negal did. I just say that someone who has a last name from Germany HAS TO BE A NAZI, right? (Just to be fair and play the stereotyping “joke” on all of us). Sincerely,

  • Dalvin112

Uhhh…how is this article commentary on Apple’s arrogance? And why did this article’s writer need to use Mexican stereotypes to prove his “misguided” point?

  • Anonymous

Kind of sad that you need this explained, but I’ll give it a shot. Ready? This isn’t a commentary on Apple’s arrogance. This is a joke site. They make stuff up about Apple. Some really, really silly stuff. Most of the time, they exaggerate the bad things people say about Apple: like they’re trying to control the world, they’re way too expensive, they’ve created a religion, or that they’re just plain arrogant. The joke in this article is that Apple is so full of themselves that would actually launch a phone with such a stupid “theme.” The joke is that Apple is so clueless that they really believe this a good idea — and that Apple fans are so clueless, they’ll probably buy it. Now here’s the shocker, and I hope you’re sitting down for this: they don’t really mean it! It’s a joke. Meant to be taken tongue-in-cheek. And nobody really believes that Mexicans wear sombreros.

  • James Williamson

Well said. Anyone that can’t laugh at themselves must live a sad life. I’d write some more but I need to ride my kangaroo out to get some tucker before it gets dark!

  • James Williamson

Did you see the racist stereotype in your complaint there? Learn to laugh, you might enjoy it. I don’t know how accurate your claim of “not the best” is, but I hear all about this siesta time and I want in.

  • Duckwithnukes

    Calm down. It’s a joke.

    Really… nothing here is serious.
